The goal of this project is not just to have a listing of links of Filipino organizations. At the very least, the links of Filipino organizations may serve as a means to get vital information or to get in touch with Filipinos living or studying in a given place. This could be useful for Filipino visitors as well as local Filipino residents or those wishing to communicate with Filipinos in the area.

Because of immigrants and overseas workers, Filipinos have very significant presence in many parts of the world. In the United States, for example, Filipinos comprise the third largest ethnic group, after Mexicans and African-Americans. There are a number of very prominent Filipinos, e.g., the Governor of Hawaii, in various professions in the United States. Nonetheless, it is a bit disappointing that Filipinos, as an ethnic group, do have as much a political and social clout commensurate with our number and sometimes even less compared with other ethnic groups that are even smaller in number.

Part of this is the determination of the members of some ethnic groups to have more cohesive structure as a community and use the power of number to effect change. One of the models for this is the Jewish community, who by sheer force of their cohesiveness and willingness to back this with their resources, have essentially dictated American policy -- especially in the Middle East.

The majority of mankind have heard -- through ountless books, movies and memorial shrines -- of the "Holocaust" committed against the Jews during World War II. The Jewish people have been successful in making other people remember. In contrast, because of sheer lack of collective effort, similar Fates of other ethnic groups, like the Armenians, the Cambodians, Africans and many others have become or will become mere footnotes in history books -- essentially forgotten by the rest of mankind.

Instead of being envied with a tinge of jealousy, the Jewish community must be applauded for their devotion to their culture and their history. Filipinos can learn much from the example of the Jewish people.

The internet is a powerful ally, if used properly, to help the Filipino people make a difference, not only for ourselves but for the role we are destined to play in the global community.

Our long term hope therefore in creating the listing here is to make Filipino associations, groups or organizations become aware of each other. Our dream is for this listing to be a catalyst so that all these organizations may some day get in touch with each other and find ways to help each other.

Just getting to know each other may catalyze further discussions that could lead to joint projects or activities. Some of these activities may be useful in helping Filipinos within the same community, state or country. Our hope also is for the more fortunate among us to share their talents and resources, and to initiate activities, to help improve the plight of our mother country and other Filipinos.
