[The  letter,  "One World", was written in response to one of the members of Flickr group (Museum Online). The dream that is "One World" however was one of my dreams all the way back when the internet was not even conceived. The seminal concepts for "One World" as an internet site is integral of a more comprehensive website: "Treasures of the Internet".]

Ray,

Yes, I know. I did visit your page several times already, and hope to see more in the future.

That is one of my dreams actually, to create a website called "One World". I believe personally that we can only see the dreams and longings of peoples of the world when we see them through their perspective, not through the eyes of other people (tourists, journalists, arm-chair experts, etc.)

What we will find is that each one of us are no different from each other — that we share similar dreams and longings, linked together with the eternal search of "the good, noble, beautiful and true".

Once we see that, we will have less fear of other peoples of the world — it is only then that there can be healing and ultimately peace. I am doing this not only to see beautiful things, but partly as a long term project. I believe personally that there will be no solution to the events in the Middle East, unless all of us find each other as human beings. No child is born a terrorist, as the media and politicians wanted us to believe. We as a whole world made suicide bombers of what once were innocent children — because of our collective indifference to their plight, or being too accepting of what the media and arm-chair experts want us to believe of other peoples of the world. They are quite often victims of events without their own control. And like a rattle snake, once cornered, will strike back.

I am not a pessimist though because the history of Northern Ireland, among the most recent demonstrations of what can be possible, suggests that even warring peoples can come together, once they realize the futility of war and the desire to eliminate another — in order to survive.

That is the vision that drives me to launch "One World" one day — to dream of a better world, if not for us, then for those who come after us.

That in a capsule is the philosophy behind a dream project I call "One World" And, as part of that I have initiated a project related to my own country and people, called "Likas-Philippines", and use that as a working model and later on as a showcase when it is time to tackle "One World", so that other peoples of the world would be easier to persuade, and collaborate. It is only then that "One World" will cease being a dream but the beginnings of a reality.

What I am doing now, as a prelude to "One World", is a very ambitious and daunting project because it is not just a simple photogallery — but instead tackling all about the Philippines and Filipino people through the perspective of Filipinos. One of our tragedy as a nation is that other peoples of the world "wrote" our history (and continue to do so, to this day). We want to change that or many have tried to do over the years, but on an individual basis.

It is only now, thanks to the internet, that those of like minds among our people are finding each other and trying to collaborate. It is slow going because I do not want to do the project by myself, I wish the project to be reflective of as many Filipinos as is possible. Just now, I have finally reached a few souls from my country who have similar dreams, and are very excited to help make the dream a reality.

When the Likas-Philippines is already underway, my dream is to reach peoples of other cultures of the world — who truly care about our fate as members of a global community — will join with me in making the dream that is "One World", a reality.

My hope is that you shall be one of those who see the importance of such endeavor. In this dream, "One World", I believe personally that the arts and literature, more than anything else is the quintissential distillation, the repository of the dreams of each peoples of the world. It is the reason why I launched "Museum Online" and hope soon to launch "One World", along the same principles and policies as "Museum Online" — quite different from that of all the other groups in flickr. But that is only as far as the visual is concerned, I am also interested to gather in one place — that of peoples literature, culture, day-to-day lives, and more. That tackled in its totality, in the context and in relation to other cultures of the world, from the perspective of each people, will give us a better view of the human being in each and everyone of us.

I am also interested with "Ecosystems" and more. But, I realize that I cannot do it all by myself. Even if I can, it is self-defeating and a failure if the result is the vision of a single person, rather than a people, or in the case of "One World", the peoples of the world.

So, I am rambling my thoughts with you, with the hope that I can touch your heart and soul for you to see the vision and become part of the quest for that dream — so that one day, such Quixotic dream becomes our reality.

Cornelio

The above letter was in response to one of the members here in Flickr in another pool (Museum Online). The dream that is "One World" however was one of my dreams all the way back when the internet was not even conceived. The seminal concepts for "One World" as an internet site is integral of a more comprehensive website: "Treasures of the Internet".

The photogallery that is the focus of this component sought in the Flickr site will be archived systematically in a photogallery website "One World" in the "Treasures of the Internet" portal site .

The "One World" website however is more than a photogallery. With your help, it can become the reposity of the culture, history and literatures of the peoples of the world. There are many of similar sites in the internet today, including such ambitious "open source" collaboratives like Wikipedia.

One difference of the "One World" that is conceived in "Treasures of the Internet" portal site is that it will be told from the perspective of each of the peoples (as part of a nation) of this world — not by Western journalist, armchair experts or tourists.
