AIDS Cases by Exposure Category and Race/Ethnicity
Men who have sex with men (MSM) constitutes the majority of adult cases of AIDS reported among American Indians & Alaska Natives, Asian & Pacific Islanders and Whites.
Among African Americans, injection drug use (IDU) has been the primary mode of exposure to HIV (36%), followed by MSM and heterosexual contact. Among Hispanics, MSM and IDU contribute almost the same proportion to adult cases of AIDS. Like African Americans, heterosexual contact is also a major mode of HIV transmission among Hispanics.
