  • Catheter: SFAF
    an instrument that allows fluid to pass from or into a body cavity. Certain type of catheters are semi-permanent lines inserted into a vein to infuse substances (e.g., drugs, nutrients) into the bloodstream. A central catheter delivers substances directly into a major vein in the chest; an indwelling catheter is inserted beneath the skin.

    A tubular medical device for insertion into canals, vessels, passageways, or cavities of the body, usually to permit injection (eg, through an intravenous catheter into a vein) or withdrawal of fluids or to keep a passage open.
