a subset of CD4 and CD8 cells that proliferate
rapidly when exposed to new antigens. Naive cells are "uncommitted"
and respond to general antigenic stimulation (i.e., not only to a specific
antigen). A naive T-cell is not yet "programmed" to stimulate
either a cell-mediated (TH1) or a humoral (TH2) response.
