Interferon-alpha (INTRON-A, ROFERON-A):SFAF
a type of interferon
produced in response to viral infection. Genetically engineered interferon-alpha
is used to treat Kaposi's sarcoma, anogenital warts and hepatitis B and
C, and is under study as an anti-HIV therapy. Side effects include flu-like
symptoms, anemia and neutropenia. A low-dose oral formulation of interferon-alpha
(Kemron) has shown little efficacy.
